The hidden cost of DVD rentals
Using the IRS mileage rate of 54 ¢ per mile, 20 miles of driving back and forth to the video store will pay for 30 days of Netflix which has thousands of movies and shows that your video store doesn’t have. Past episodes of your favorite TV shows are commercial free.
When you don’t finish a program, you can watch it later at the same spot where you left off. One subscription can stream to multiple devices at the same time. Each device can play different movies and you can start a movie on one device and finish it on another.
You may not find the latest releases on the streaming service, however Netflix has a huge selection of classic, foreign and art house films that you can’t find anywhere else.
Netflix’s DVD service has a better selection for an additional $7.99 per month ($9.99 for Blu-Ray). All postage is paid by Netflix and you only have to wait 2 or 3 days for your next selection.
Hulu has recent TV episodes and movies
You may have to wait until tomorrow morning to watch tonight’s episodes, but that’s a minor inconvenience compared to recording the show with a DVR. Hulu is only $7.99 per month and $4 more if you prefer a commercial free experience.
